On 10 May, Greece held elections at universities across the country for student councils. In these elections, the Communist Youth of Greece (KNE) managed to win a significant victory. KNE’s list, ‘Panspoudastiki KS’ (All Student Cooperation Movement), became the largest for the second year in a row, with 35.15% of the votes. ‘Panspoudastiki KS’ thereby strengthened its position compared to last year, with more votes in both absolute numbers and percentage.

The CJB sent the following congratulatory message to the KNE.

“Dear comrades,

The CJB congratulates you on the victory of ‘Panspoudastiki KS’ in the student elections. For the second year in a row, the list supported by the Communist Youth of Greece manages to finish as the largest. With more than 35% of the votes, ‘Panspoudastiki KS’ strengthens its position compared to the previous elections. An impressive achievement that shows that the Greek students from the working class are done with the constant deterioration of conditions for students brought about by capitalism.

This victory will help strengthen the student movement in Greece. This is necessary to improve the student movement’s ability to struggle for students’ rights and to resist the policies and repression in higher education promoted by the Greek government and the EU, but also to strengthen the struggle for a better society.

This is also an important victory with the upcoming Greek parliamentary elections in mind. We hope the Greek working class takes courage from your victory and that 21 May will show that further strengthening the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) is the only answer to the problems the working class is facing.

Comradely,

International Commission of the CJB”
